Mark and I were scouting this location at around 11 pm the previous night from our computers, when we realized the only weather window for hiking up was right then, that very second. In the blink of an eye we were in go mode gathering all our backpacking supplies and we were out the door in under 10 minutes. Hauling ass up the cascade lake highway then hiking up Tumalo Mountain, we made it from house to summit in just over an hour. Just in time to catch the aurora borealis (shown in our Night Sky album). Needless to say, the sunrise over Mt. Bachelor the next morning was just as much of a treat. We only got 3 hours of sleep that night but the excitement gave us more than enough energy to carry the day. -Henry Mosier
